Losing Weight and Having Fun

Losing weight should not involve "magic pills" or a special trendy diet. Losing weight involves changing one's lifestyle and having fun. I do not mean that you should go from being a couch potato to climbing Mount Everest in one day. Getting fit can be done in small progressive steps.

First, start by getting a gym membership and start attending. You can watch television while on the treadmill instead of on the couch. Maybe you can start by going twice a week and increasing the frequency slowly. Take group classes at the gym: kickboxing, yoga, weightlifting, and so forth. Leave your gym clothes in the car so you can go directly after work instead of going home. Make everything in your life more physical. Take the stairs instead of taking the escalator, walk after lunch, bike to work, walk to work, etc... Plan fun physical activities with your friends and family such as hiking, dancing, biking, or tennis.

Next, researchers have found that people who eat breakfast actually weigh less than people who decide to skip breakfast (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/25/health/nutrition/25brea.html?_r=1&scp=5&sq=breakfast&st=nyt&oref=slogin). Therefore, eat your eggs and cereal. For instance, this is what I do. I eat a dinner portion in the morning, a healthy portion for lunch, and a light snack for dinner.

Do not get frustrated if you do not lose ten pounds in one week. Results will take time, but they will last as long as you change your habits for good. Most importantly, love your body and treat it with respect.

How to Unwind

Unwind with great music,
Company with wine,
or just a great jest.
